I've had it with being politically correct. Today I read yet another news article identifying a rapist by his clothing only. This is probably the millionth time in the history of crime reporting this side of 1994, that journalism has not reported the facts for fear of racial stereotyping.
I want to know, when police say they are looking for a rapist at large, whether he's black, white, coloured or Asian. Why? Not because I'm a racist (I'm not, by the way), but because it is more useful when trying to stay safe in this country.
The only stereotype that this form of journalism is promoting is slipshod reporting and poor police work. When insufficient facts are released, I'm going to suspect every male over the age of 16 14* wearing black jeans, a white shirt, a brown jacket and orange running shoes (see related link). Hang on, there's a guy who works here with us dressed like that! Am I a racist for suspecting him at all? No – he's white.
Would it make a difference if I told you the rapist is a child rapist?
