After what feels like an eternity of trying, I finally have SUSE 10.1 running on my notebook. I'm finally beginning the transfer of my life from Windows to Linux.

Why linux now, Randolph?
Because it's faster, more stable, and open. After my experiences with the disaster that Microsoft calls Windows Vista, I'm not missing anything. My PPC-based iMac runs quicker than Windows also. Plus, xgl kicks Vista's ass in the 3D graphics department. Aero can kiss my ass 🙂
"Aero can kiss my ass :)" ..feeling mulish and stubborn are we? 😛 But kudos on making The Change; I too am heading for that side of the fence (but I'll likely go Ubuntu) where, for once, the grass being greener isn't because of more steaming piles of ordure than this side. Sadly, no small amount of my work currently forces me to keep a 'doze system. 🙁
Anyhow, cool as Xgl is, take a look at SymphonyOS/ for,IMO, a breathtaking departure from the usual GUI design. Worth noting: it is a distro in and of itself, but the funky bit that comprises the GUI can be applied to your Loonix flava of choice!
One word: VMWare. I downloaded the Server last night in fact, and plodding my way through an installation.
Aside from that, I've seen writeups on SymphonyOS and it does look promising. Xgl is still buggy, but even OS X kicks Aero's ass.
Speaking of plodding, if you want to spare yourself the interminable wait of downloading, I've got the current SymphonyOS on CD, as well as a bunch of other toys/distro action (yes, I've been spanking the bandwidth while it's still around to abuse!) 😮
That sounds so dirty. Gimme!
