This is my public service announcement for 2006:
Telkom has requested that all telephone users start including the area code when dialling land-line numbers. So even if you live in Johannesburg, and want to dial someone in the same area, you are requested to dial the 011 code regardless.
Cellphone users already do this, so there isn't really a problem.
There is one major change for international numbers, though. The 09 prefix for international calls has been changed to 00. This is no doubt due to the 09x area code being opened up for use.
Yes and; what is the problem lol… In the UK if you are in Basingstoke for example and want to call someone you still need to do the 01256 area code – the same for london and the 020xx
SA has had it easy with phone numbers for years now *grin* – Time to get rid of Telscum
Speaking of getting rid of Telkom, check out Neotel.
