So yes … the laptop finally died. I now can confirm what I suspected last night: when the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights flash simultaneously, it means the machine is running too hot.
I can boot it, but it only can do basic stuff, so I used FTP (!) to copy the Outlook PST file off onto my network drive and I will move to the Mac, but OS X only. I am downloading Thunderbird now, and will use that instead of Outlook / Entourage.
I'm a little concerned about the Microsoft Word compatibility between Mac and PC, so I will keep the Windows virtual machine to save Word documents in Office 2003 format once I've written them, for my assignments.
Otherwise, it's the shelf for my .NET development activities I guess. I can still do Apache / MySQL / PHP development though, which is not a bad thing.
Which reminds me, I need to boot my laptop again to get Cyberduck FTP off it.
