Firstly, Zimbabwe. I think the delay in announcing results is unnecessary, and causing more stress than necessary. Having said that, I also think it is counterproductive to announce winners and losers before the results are out. As I understand the Zimbabwean constitution, the president is declared based on 50% plus one vote. The same goes for the parliamentary seats.
At last count (10:49, almost an hour ago), 109 out of 210 seats have been officially counted, with Zanu-PF in the lead by two seats. This is meaningless. Only when Zanu-PF, or the MDC, has 105 seats or more, has the winner been declared.
Now the second matter, April Fool's Day. One comment on CodeProject seemed to underline the feeling that I had, that it seems as though no one is trying hard enough. From stories of the SABC cancelling all television broadcasts over peak periods for a month, to Herschelle Gibbs being banned for life, it seems a bit lame. Even Google's gDay prediction is bordering on tedious.
Perhaps I'm just jaded, but with these two issues at hand, I should have just stayed in bed.
