The idea is simple: you love life, and they want you to submit an example of you “loving it”, with a photograph and a blurb of under 100 words. All you need to do is visit their site and join up there.

Great stuff. Until you read the Terms and Conditions, called a “Submission Agreement”. Have a gander at this. I’ve highlighted in bold things that they have said, but otherwise it is word-for-word excerpt.

USE OF THE SUBMISSION. I irrevocably and unconditionally agree that McDonald’s shall own the Submission (including the copyright and all other rights embodied therein) and that McDonald’s and its designees shall have the right (but not the obligation) to use the Submission for or in connection with the Campaign (including posting on McDonald’s website) and for all other commercial purposes in any and all media now known or ever in the future throughout the universe in perpetuity at no charge to McDonald’s and without further permission for use. McDonald’s shall have those rights whether or not the Submission is selected for the Campaign. McDonald’s and its designees shall have the right to post, exploit, publish, add to, subtract from, change, revise or otherwise edit the Submission, including, without limitation, my name, biographical information and likeness as embodied therein, and I release and will indemnify McDonald’s from and against any claims arising out of such actions or the use of any of rights granted herein. I waive all rights that I may have under any laws or statutes worldwide that concern “moral rights” or “droit moral” in connection with the Submission, unless prohibited by law.
I understand that McDonald’s assumes no responsibility for any similarities between any Submission and any future advertising or promotional activities or other initiatives undertaken by McDonald’s.

Now that is heavy going! Basically, you assign all rights, including your right to privacy and person, just to appear on the side of a McDonald’s lunchbox.

No freaking chance. I wouldn’t even sign up for Idols because they wanted to run my life for an entire year.
