Telkom, Sentech, iBurst.

Telkom: overcharges their customers, and have a track record of installing lines 13 months after application, in areas which already have lines. On principle, I refuse to use them. They are run by the SA government.

Sentech: overcharges their customers, but at least on the technical level, connection speed is consistent (if slow). Their Support desk and Finance department are utterly useless. Plus, they REFUSE to give you any information about their company, in violation of the law of South Africa. They are run by the SA government.

iBurst: the “burst” means you get a burst of connectivity and speed. Sometimes. If you’re lucky. They are run by the SA government. Don’t believe me? Vodacom just bought a chunk of them. Vodacom is 50% owned by Telkom. ’nuff said.

Neotel: they might be our new “Second National Operator”, but that’s no help yet, because of local loop unbundling. It’s like Communism: it’s a good idea on paper. Meanwhile, they have to rely on Telkom’s infrastructure.

I HATE THIS MESS!
