Microsoft last week said that Linux and various other open source goodies infringe on a number of patents they happen to own. Novell users are exempt from this. Red Hat isn't. Huh?

Yes, according to Microsoft, their agreement with Novell lets off anyone who is using SUSE from any possible law suit.

I'd like to see how that plays out in court. Novell bought SUSE. They didn't develop it. SUSE is just another Linux distribution. Linux is free and open. There is no logic. If there is, perhaps I'm failing to see it.

EDIT: Apparently the main driver for Microsoft's threat is GPL version 3, which Linus has personally stated will not be used by the Linux kernel until issues with DRM are resolved. Sounds like a big noise over nothing after all.
