November’s obliviot of the month is Lindiwe Mngomezulu, for giving her 17-hour-old baby to a stranger in a taxi while she went to buy shoes in a Pep store.

Police spokesperson Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said Lindiwe Mngomezulu gave birth at Hlabisa Hospital on Friday and was returning home the same day when the baby was stolen.

“The mother met a friendly woman in a taxi who offered to take care of her baby while she went into a Pep store to buy shoes,” Mdletshe said.

This is why I want to be a teacher, so that I can teach others how not to be this stupid.

You never buy shoes from Pep.

Yes this is flippant, but lack of critical thought is a serious problem today. People don’t think before they act, or recognise the consequences of their actions. You don’t give your baby to anyone you don’t know. Countless babies have been murdered and raped in South Africa, and no pair of shoes is worth a baby’s life.

Here I sit with the inability to have a child, and there Lindiwe goes off to buy shoes and hands over a 17-hour-old baby to a stranger. Why wasn’t she still in hospital?
