I posted this quote on Twitter earlier today, in capital letters, because it’s true. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING — Randolph West (@rabryst) December 3, 2014 This past week, M and I made a big decision. We’re all about big decisions in this family. We got married when it was still aContinue reading “I Have No Idea What I Am Doing”
For the last month or so, my Twitter feed has been inundated with vicious hatred, towards feminists in particular. Whether it’s related to this hashtag is immaterial: bullying is wrong. Rape- and death-threats are wrong. Doxxing is wrong.
We returned recently from a trip to Britain and Ireland, through Trafalgar Tours. The coach drove from London through to York, then Glasgow, Edinburgh, across the sea to Belfast and down to Dublin, then back again to Cardiff and finishing up in London again. It was the best time of year to go, and weContinue reading My Holiday To The British Isles
Still here. Not planning on going anywhere. Since I last posted, I’ve rewritten a fairly complex website that was hacked, moved house, and been working on other things. Joan Rivers was great. Next stop: Cher.
Yesterday I took the plunge, after that silent advice you get from a dentist that says a lot more than actual words, and got braces for the next two years. Hopefully it will resolve longstanding issues I’ve had with crowding, cleaning and eating, not least root canal on two molars. Today, I’m in a smallContinue reading Braces
Mother-in-law came to stay for six weeks. We went to Banff, Lake Louise, and back to Banff again. We put in anContinue reading Catching up
In May 2006, I lamented that there isn’t enough time to do the things I want to do. Amusingly, on that very day, I started a (parody) religion, which eventually became known as The Smiters of Iniquity. That has fizzled a bit, but I did it. So what else on that list from seven-and-a-half yearsContinue reading Bits

I’m sporting a new coat of paint on rabryst.ca, thanks to Scott Smith and Decode, his port of Underscores. Scott is one of the amazing people I’ve interacted with on ADN. I like this theme because it renders quickly, and I don’t need to worry about a separate mobile UI.
We managed to avoid the flood. Our house is on a hill. The storm that brought the flood was intense, reminiscent of Johannesburg, but will more water. The Zoo had to fire most of their workforce and they’re losing hundreds of thousands of dollars per day. Support them. Visit calgaryzoo.com and clickety on the donateContinue reading Calgary flood
